Criminal Defense Attorney on the Road to Carroll County
Criminal Defense Attorney and Travel
One of the advantages of being a criminal defense attorney is getting to travel. Sometimes I travel across the country and sometimes across the State of Missouri.
Recently I was hired as a criminal defense attorney to handle two cases for people in Carroll County, Missouri. Carrollton is the county seat. It is about a three hour drive from my office.
I had to be in court at 9:00 a.m. and I always want to give myself a little extra time so I got on the road at about 5:15 a.m. I am glad I did.
When I left for court the weather in St. Charles was beautiful. Granted it was still dark but the sky was clear and I could see the stars above me. Traffic was not very heavy and I was making good time.
The Sky Was Crying
About the time I was approaching Kingdom City I could see a huge bank of clouds in the west. Every once in a while they would light up as a result of a lightning display. I knew I was going to be in for a shower. I just did not realize how big a storm it was.
The sky continued to darken as I approached Columbia, Missouri. That is one of my favorite cities in Missouri. I spent a lot of time there in college and law school. I have some great memories of the years there.
A few miles west of Columbia, right before the bridge on I-70 that crosses the Missouri river the sky opened up with a torrential rain. It was coming down so hard it was difficult to see the road in front of me. I knew there were other vehicles around me but it was impossible to see them. I slowed down to about 40 miles per hour but it did not seem to help with visibility.
That intensity did not let up for about 10 minutes. Then finally I moved into what I would call a normal rain.
The rain continued at various intensities until I got almost to Carrollton. I am glad that I allowed the extra time for the bad weather or I certainly would have been late. That is never a good thing when you show up in a different county for the first time.
The courthouse there, pictured above, is on a town square. It is very quaint and reminds me of so many other small counties I go to as a criminal defense attorney.
After a brief appearance in court, I was on the way back. Even though there was intermittent rain, it never returned to the torrential intensity I experienced on the way over.
Having the opportunity to see the various counties in Missouri is a blessing. I really enjoy what I do.
